PRESENTING THE BEST SELECTION OF RECENT FILMS AND A RETROSPECTIVE OF AGNES VARDA, GODMOTHER OF THE FRENCH NEW WAVE

The annual French Film Festival, strongly anchored in Singapore’s cultural landscape as one of the most anticipated film festivals, is back again as part of vOilah! France Singapore festival with its biggest selection ever!

Presented by the Embassy of France in Singapore, in partnership with local and French partners, this year’s edition is crafted alongside the theme of vOilah! and intends to spread the good vibes by bringing this special “feel good’’ feeling through the movies. The audience can look forward to many titles recently released in France which will have their premiere this November in Singapore – amongst them, numerous comedies namely, ‘’Eiffel’’ (by Martin Bourboulon with Romain Duris and Emma Mackey), ‘’Delicieux’’ (by Eric Besnard with Gregory Gadebois and Isabelle Carre), “The Price of Parenting” (by Alexandra Leclere with Josiane Balasko and Didier Bourdon) and of course, not forgetting the two much awaited cult movies, ‘’OSS 117 – From Africa with love’’ (by Nicolas Bedos with Jean Dujardin and Pierre Niney) and ‘’Kaamelott’’ (by Alexandre Astier).

The festival will also feature movies from the Cannes selection, namely, ‘’Deception’’ (by Arnaud Desplechin with Denis Podalydes and Lea Seydoux) and ‘’The Divide’’ (by Catherine Corsini with Pio Marmai, Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi and Marina Fois). Also included are films packed with suspense and with tensed, gripping and intense moments, like ‘’Black Box’’ (by Yann Gozlan with Pierre Niney and Lou de Laage), ‘’Tokyo Shaking’’ (by Olivier Peyon with Karin Viard), ‘’Madeleine Collins’’ (by Antoine Barraud with Virginie Efira and Quim Gutierez) and ‘’France’’ (by Bruno Dumont with Lea Seydoux and Blanche Gardin).

This edition’s special segment will feature the theme ‘’Music in Cinema’’ presenting titles like ‘’Aline’’, a fiction freely inspired by the life of Celine Dion (by and with Valerie Dumercier), ‘’Supremes’’, the story of the beginning of french hip-hop group NTM (by Audrey Estrougo) and many others like ‘’Tralala’’ (by Arnaud Larrieu and Jean-Marie Larrieu), ‘’Love Songs for Tough Guys’’ (by Samuel Benchertrit with Francois Damiens and Vanessa Paradis) and ‘’Song Express’’ (by Fabrice Maruca with Jeremy Lopez and Alice Pol).

As part of the sustainability focus of vOilah! 2021, the documentary “Bigger than Us” directed by Flore Vasseur and produced by Marion Cotillard will be screened to showcase young activists who have helped the world with their perseverance and selflessness.

Finally, a special programme, dedicated to Agnès Varda, the godmother of the French New Wave, will be presented at The Projector where some of her most significant and memorable films will be screened alongside the timeless classic ”The Ladies of Rochefort” by Jacques Demy, which she helped to restore.

Viewers can also look forward to Q&A sessions with the directors and cast at selected screenings.
