The Birds’ Promenade
Musical walk in Botanic Gardens
Is there anything more perfect than birdsong imitated by a flute? This suave, melodious instrument can also soar to high-pitched notes and vie with the warble of these tiny winged creatures, in turn sweet turtle dove, virtuoso nightingale, or mocking cuckoo… Then, let the violin join the concert and show how ornamentation can indeed emulate birds’ trills.
With The Birds’ Promenade (La Balade des Oiseaux), Ensemble Artifices, including an ornithologist and two musicians, take the audience on a musical tour of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, in search of a variety of birds and their symbolic dimension. Playing pieces from the 17th and 18th centuries, a time when the aviary was both a source of amusement and a motive of inspiration, The Birds’ Promenade introduces audiences to the landscape’s power into the hearing of music.
The balade will start from Tyersall Gate Visitor Centre at 8am.
