The Embassy of France in Singapore and the French Alumni Singapore present the France Alumni Singapore Lecture Series delivered by eminent personalities in Singapore who studied in France. The series puts the spotlight on how an overseas education, notably in France, has influenced their career paths.
The speaker, Charlene Tan, spent many years working her way to a PhD in infectious diseases at Aix-Marseille University. She spent much of her time handling viruses in a BSL3 laboratory and swimming in the Mediterranean.
She started her career in the civil service, honing skills in public policy strategy and communications, primarily in the Ministry of Health where she dealt with pressing issues like Singapore’s ageing population, healthcare finance and COVID-19.
She is now an editor of the commentary section at award-winning media outlet CNA, recently named 2022 WAN-IFRA Best News Website global winner. In her current role, she aims to provide insight to shape public conversations around breaking news and important issues.
The lecture is moderated by Chan Tsan, Chief Executive of HTX (Home Team Science and Technology Agency) and Deputy Secretary (Development) of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The lecture is also hosted by Sylvie Kwok, Senior Member of Technical Staff at DSO National Laboratories.
