For academia, research is supported by different agencies. The two most important are Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the National Research Foundation (NRF). A*STAR is not only a funding agency but also play the role of a research operator.
Academic research is mainly supported by the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council (RIEC) of the NRF, the Academic Research Council (ARC) of the MOE and the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) of the MOH.
For firms, the Economic Development Board (EDB) engages and promotes investments which enhance Singapore’s position as a global center for business, innovation, and talent.
A brand new entity called Enterprise Singapore is to be formed by April 2018 with the merger of the two key government agencies, IE Singapore and Spring Singapore, under the Ministry of Trade and Industry to help Singapore businesses grow and internationalise.
