The Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire (IRSN) and Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Initiative (SNRSI) of the National University of Singapore held a joint workshop as part of their ongoing collaboration on radiobiology, radiochemistry and nuclear safety on 16 and 17 June.
This workshop is the latest event of a long and fruitful collaboration between France in Singapore initiated in 2015. Wishing to position itself as a regional hub for nuclear safety and radiation protection, Singapore called on IRSN’s internationally recognized expertise to jointly develop research projects in radiobiology, radiochemistry and nuclear safety.
The French 10-member delegation led by Mr Cyril Pinel, Director of European and International Affairs at the IRSN, focused on three topics, namely radiochemistry, radiobiology and nuclear safety of the new technology of Small Modular Reactors (SMR). These working groups have also contributed to the definition of new steps for these cooperative exchanges.
This visit from the French counterpart was also the occasion to discuss further the creation of a joint laboratory between the two partners. The joint laboratory, which should start during the first half of 2023, will study several topics, among which radiobiology, radiochemistry, nuclear safety and small modular reactors technologies.
