WEI KEONG TAN’S LAST PRODUCTION SELECTED FOR ANNECY INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FILM FESTIVAL 2018

The 2018 edition of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival will take place from June 11th to 16th. The festival and its market is the biggest event worldwide in animation with more than 10 000 delegates coming from 87 countries.

The great news for the Lion City is that Wei Keong Tan’s film Between Us Two has been selected in the official selection.

Between Us Two is an independent short animation about a gay son’s conversation with his dead mother. It won the Best Singapore Short Film Award at the 28th Singapore International Film Festival.

Animation always amazes me as an incredible story-telling medium as it has the ability to entertain fantasy and mimic the familiarity of the real by weaving fiction into personal history. My animation is formed using photography, frame-by-frame drawings and photocopies.

 – Wei Keong Tan –

Tan Wei Keong was born in Singapore in 1984. His fascination for arts began at the age of 12, with his illustrations published in local newspapers. He found his favorite medium in Animation when he enrolled at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) thanks to a scholarship from the Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA). His first stop-motion film White received the Special Achievement Award at the Singapore International Film Festival in 2007. His graduation film Hush Baby was awarded with the Special Mention Award at the same festival in 2009. He subsequently taught stop-motion at NTU.  Pifuskin, his third animation film, garnered international acclaim and was selected at many prestigious films festivals worldwide, including Annecy.

The visit of a French delegation, coming from the Animation Industry and hosted by the French Embassy, in Singapore studios at the beginning of the year, has been the opportunity to discover many talents in Singapore and we are very happy to celebrate and support one of its artists!
