Pierre-Laurent Aimard & Hans Graf

Presented by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard will perform with the orchestra for the first time, playing Bartók’s Second Piano Concerto, a piece renowned for its technical demands, and conducted by Hans Graf.

Recognized internationally for his exceptional interpretative skills and commitment to contemporary music, Pierre-Laurent Aimard quickly established himself as a leading pianist by winning major prizes at the Conservatoire de Paris and becoming a founding member of Pierre Boulez’s Ensemble InterContemporain. He has premiered works by Stockhausen, Ligeti, and others, while also recording classical repertoire including Beethoven’s piano concertos.

The programme also features the Asian premiere of Sir James MacMillan’s Concerto for Orchestra (Ghosts), a work co-commissioned by major orchestras in Great Britain, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the United States. The concerto is notable for its haunting themes and complex orchestration.

The concert concludes with Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet, a dramatic and emotive composition depicting the tragic love story through rich musical storytelling.
