Institut français – Cité internationale des arts 2020

In the framework of its residency programme Cité international des arts 2020, Institut français welcomes some 70 artists for three to six months in the heart of Paris. This programme enables foreign artists to develop a research and creation project with the support of cultural partners, establishments from the Cultural Network or cultural bodies.

Artists may present a research project on a topic/theme of their choice:

  • Architecture, Landscaping, Urban planning
  • Visual arts
  • Street arts
  • Puppets
  • Digital arts
  • Comic arts
  • Cinema, Animated cinema, Creation documentary
  • Exhibition curator
  • Design
  • Graphic arts
  • Literature, Children’s literature
  • Art trades
  • Current music, Classic & contemporary music, Music for film and video games
  • Virtual reality

Created in 1965, with the support and delegation of the French Ministry of Culture and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Cité internationale des arts has since welcomed artists from all over the world. In partnership with 135 French and international organizations, it received each month more than 300 artists from all disciplines, generations and horizons.

Notification of results:
October 2019

From January 2020

Cité internationale des arts, Paris.

Terms of residence:
The Institut français provides the artists with studio housing at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. The partner associated with the artist, in France or abroad, finances the artist’s travel and/or living expenses and carries out the process of submitting the artist’s application.

Application submission:
Applications submitted directly by artists will not be considered.
They must be submitted by the associated partners (Instituts français, Cultural Services of French Embassies, Alliances françaises) and/or French or foreign cultural structures (art centres, associations, multidisciplinary laboratories, galleries, museums, contracting structures, theatres, production locations for dance and street arts, concert halls, foreign festivals, etc.)
