“Les Précieuses ridicules”

“We are starting to be known; here are the beautiful people who take the way to come and see us” (Precious Ridiculousness, Scene XII).

“Les Précieuses ridicules” presented by The Theater Factory will perform from 2 to 5 June at the Alliance Française de Singapour. This play is tasty stuffing to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Molière’s birthday. This brief one-act work was a hit when it was created in 1659 and anchored the young playwright in the comic genre.

Two provincials go to Paris “the place to be” in the hope of meeting quality people, beautiful minds. But fine speech is not given to everyone and here are two marquises rejected by our two precious ones. Our humiliated suitors decide to take revenge for their impertinence.

Mathilde Bagein’s staging is energetic and playful. Molière’s fully preserved text sees a few modern references added in a dimension that is sometimes pedagogical but also and above all comic.

In a musical atmosphere half baroque half hip hop, burlesque at will, this piece does not take itself very seriously.

A play directed and directed by Mathilde Bagein with the assistance of Shazia Dewani and Stéphanie Le Blan Subtil and interpreted by Mathilde Bagein, Christophe Blanc, Akram Chebli, Laudine Daniel, Gregory Fournier, Angelique Hernandez, Philippe Taverne.
