Cyrano reimagined in Cantonese opera

Cyrano De Bergerac Website

Experience a unique fusion of East and West this April as Cyrano de Bergerac: a Cantonese opera interpretation makes its Singapore debut at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre. This richly reimagined production, refined over a decade by Cantonese opera master Law Kar Ying, transforms Edmond Rostand’s beloved French classic into a vibrant Cantonese opera performance.

Originally presented at the Hong Kong Chinese Opera Festival 2024, the production arrives in Singapore on 18 and 19 April 2026. Inspired by Rostand’s timeless story of wit, love and courage, this adaptation relocates the narrative from France to the setting of the Ming dynasty’s Tumu Crisis, blending traditional operatic aesthetics with fresh dramatic flair.

This staging is a joint initiative by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and the National Arts Council, with support from the Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of France in Singapore, celebrating the 61st anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and France and marking an important milestone in cultural exchange between Singapore, France and Hong Kong.
