“Fête de la Musique” celebrates live music every year and highlights the diversity of musical practices and expressions. It is a major popular event open to all musicians, amateur or professional.
Organized for the first time in France in 1982, “Fête de la Musique” has become an international event. More than 120 countries took part of the 2019 edition.
This year France will celebrate music around the world with two online events:
– The French Institute supports “Fête de la Musique” internationally through its partnership with the Mélo platform, which offers a world tour of this virtual edition. As a digital educational platform, Mélo allows to explore French history, geography, civic education, economy through music. On June 21 the public is invited to discover online concerts by French and foreign artists from over 50 countries.
– Bandsintown LIVE is programming a special livestream edition of Fête de la Musique / Make Music Day on June 21. Soul & folk songwriter AYỌ, electronic hitmaker Kungs, and singer Kiddy Smile (made famous by The Gossip’s Beth Ditto) are among the artists performing at live.bandsintown.com. Nineteen Francophone artists from all genres – jazz, soul, pop, house, and hip hop – will livestream half-hour sets. The initiative has gathered support from the French Bureau Export’s “What the France”, Sacem, Ville de Paris, the French Embassy in the United States, TV5 Monde, The Federation of the French Alliances Francaises and the Alliance Francaise Foundation, the French Institute Alliance Française of NY, FIAF and The Alliance Française of Greenwich, CT.
