BURN FROM ABSENCE
As part of ArtScience Museum’s season of Mind & Body: The Art And Science Of Being Human, ArtScience Cinema is proud to present French artist Emeline Courcier’s moving image work Burn From Absence.
Curious about her Vietnamese family’s desire for ‘forgetting’ traumatic pasts as a form of generational resilience, Emeline attempts to trace her family’s elusive history using artificial intelligence.
Using recorded voices of family members, descriptions and remnants of old photographs, Emeline rematerialises the memory space of her distant relatives in Chris Marker-esque fashion, crafting a riveting and moving tale of inherited remembrance, erosion of history, and the distances of trauma.
Emeline Courcier will be present for a Q&A for the screening on 24th May.
