A CENTENNIAL COMMEMORATION AS VOILAH! 2020 OPENING PROGRAMME

Both doctors and political activists in their early days, Georges Clemenceau and Dr Lim Boon Keng shared many similarities. They both founded and published newspapers to support their ideas and spent time far away from their homes (Edinburgh for Dr Lim and New York City for Clemenceau), an experience that shaped the sense of political compromise (their political ideas) and that would later become the hallmark of their political career.

The webinar will start with a short overview of the life of these two famous activists in early 20th century France and Singapore. After which, the common political struggles faced by both Georges Clemenceau and Dr Lim Boon Keng will be discussed, with an emphasis on their progressiveness towards modernising their societies.

This webinar will also introduce the 100th anniversary of Georges Clemenceau’s visits to Singapore.
